My first season of The 4word Movement cartoon has come to a close. Big ups to everyone that supported, from the bloggers to the fans to the artists that were on the show, I thank you. The first season was more of an experiment to see how my ideas would be received. That's why I did it with the music from the final installment of my VT Union crew, "The VT Union Is Dead". The Album B4 The Album

Finally! I have decided to drop my solo set... after years and years of workin other peoplez project I am droppin' MY sh*t! Thanks for checkin' out my art! This album is a long time in the making. After I left the "industry" in 2000 I have been on an independent quest to release my own material, my own way. This quest has landed me in Burlington Vermont where I pay the bills as a hip hop musician, DJin' 3 times a week and rhyming 2-3 times a month. This album began as I first arrived in Burlington In 2004, in fact some of the lyrics and beats are from that time frame. Most of these vocals were recorded in my living room with my trusty Korg d1600 and MPC 1000 at the end of last year, 2008. (since then, I've switched to Pro Tools, the next album is fuego! due out in Early 2010! lol). Some lyrics were written under the Bush regime but still feel relevant even though we have a new president who may change that... jurys still out on that one.... I mean... I like the guy but... he is a politician... anyways.... I called this album "The Album B4 The Album" because in the current state of hip hop, everybody and they mama got a mixtape out, but its they album. So I decided to just call it what it is. It's an introduction to what I'm bringing into existence on this planet, my truth. Hard work is what got me here and people can hear it in my works.
Although this is my first album by no means am I a rookie at what I'm doing. When I played industry politics I was involved in the creation of bonafide hip hop classics. Even then I did it my way but always had to answer to industry politrix. Some of the classics... I recorded and mixed Mobb Deep's "Quiet Storm" Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq's "deja Vu (Uptown Baby)" to name a few. The Commission

So for a minute I've been sittin' on this remix album I made entitled "The Commission". I remembered that before B.I.G. passed, he and Jay Z were gonna make a group called "The Commssion". What I did was add 'Pac & Nas to the group and made an album that sounds like me and these cats in the studio for a week. I put a coupla guest features on there too. I made all the beats on the MPC 1000 and mixed it all on a Korg d1600 digital recorder.

big ups to my man Franchise who did the art work for this mix. I told him to base it off an old Black Panther newspaper and he freaked it! When I started puttin this 2gether, I wasn't sure of the direction until I started throwin' 'Pac in the mix. His presence made all the gun talk sound more focused, as if it wasn't just gangsta raps but revolutionary gangsta raps.... hence the BPP theme...

I've decided to release all my old 90's hip hop mixes.... They were all created before the new wave of DJ mixers that started to come out around 2000 so I'm calling this series "The 9deez: The Gemini Sessions". Below is volume 1. I made it around the year 2000 on a Gemini MX 2200 mixer. The MX 2200 was the mixer of the late 80's and mid 90's... I think Jazzy Jeff created the transformer scratch on this mixer. For each volume I put out I'm gonna put the mixer i used on the cover.....

Me n my homie DJ A.Dog have been doin' rock mash ups for our local commercial station 99.9 The Buzz. EVERY friday @ 10pm we getz it in with my man Utah (you can stream it online @ 999thebuzz.com). So in the midst of mashin' up rock jointz with hip hop I figured why not do the same with old soul recordz? The way we do our mash ups, we make it like the MC made the song WITH the artists complete with ad libs and whutnot. So I had to match up what the soul song was about with what the MC is sayin to make the concept of the song shine. This is my first volume of soul mash ups. Me n A.Dog are gonna do a rock mash up mixtape soon too so stay tuned....

VT Union Releases Part Deux

This was our second release.... "The Return" (2008)

We got Statik Selecktah to host this one. I was born in Boston (Roxbury & Waltham represent!) so it was dope to work with a cat that is doin' his thing back home. Hit Statik up at myspace.com/statikselektah
We also got a couple of hot shout outz from Wu Tang's Ghostface, Method Man & Raekwon. The Wu was in town just as we were completing "The Return" so they showed us mad love on the shout outs! I made all the beats on my MPC 1000 except for one beat I made with my big homie Bobby Konders.. we used the MPC 3000. The name of that track is "On My Grind" with Union representatives Manus and Dakota handlin' the verses and hook... Look for Bobby at myspace.com/massiveb

"The Return" features the Juice Crew freestyle legend Craig G. and his brother Will Pack. Craig and Will are my homies from way back. I been doin' tracks with Craig since '92. We first hooked up thru Mark Pearson who at the time worked for MC Serch and was managing Nas. This was before Illmatic. Mark was real helpful to me in the begining of my career. He gave me my first PAID engineering gig! That gig was recording this group called "Lordz Of Brooklyn" who were down with House of Pain and more recently with La Coka Nostra. Anyway, me and Craig go back... he used to crash on my ghetto ass living room floor in Bed-Stuy! In fact when B.I.G. was shot, me and Craig were at The Cutting Room workin' on some freestyle ish. I'll never forget it cuz I fell asleep on the studio's couch and Craig was wakin' me up like "SUN! WAKE UP! SOMEBODY SHOT BIGGIE!" It was crazy! I lost touch with Craig around 2000 and didn't hook back up until the whole myspace thing jumped off... Big up to Craig and all his success!!! Check him out at myspace.com/emce3e

"The Return" also features R.A. The Rugged Man. We got at him thru my peoplez J Paperback & Earth. He recorded the verse for "Rockstar" when he came thru Burlington on tour with Jedi Mind Tricks. This was the first time we paid for a national feature. R.A. came thru and blessed it with some pure debauchery! Lines like "Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Sleepin' in coffins, groupie b*tches wantin abortions, itz costin a fortune....." Big respect to R.A.!!! Hit him at myspace.com/ratheruggedman

By the time these jointz were ready to mix I moved from one part of Burlington to antoher. Needless to say the studio got an upgrade on speakers so the songs on "The Return" sound better than "Tha Mixtape" sonically. Both releases are hot but tech wise "The Return" is tighter. We sold about 300 of these hand to hand for $10 bucks in the cold months in VT. If you have ever been in VT in winter then you know that ANYTHING hand to hand sucks so we weren't able to really push it the way we wanted. One of the songs, "Handz On It", was a mini hit out here in Burlington. It got a real good response every time I played it in the clubs out here. What made "The Return" hot was it had mainstream soundin' ish that we made along with our underground bangers. A good mix... with these songs we did underground shows like opening for Murs but also did mainstream sets openin' for Bone Thugz N Harmony and Wycleff Jean. The Wycleff show was at Saint Micheals in Colchester, VT. It was about 3000 people and we killed it! VT Union Releases Part 1

The VT Union was an organization me an' my homies A.Dog & Dakota put 2gether to unite artists out here in Burlington,VT. However, in the Burlington area, we're more known as a "rap" group than as a collective.... I think with the release of solo projects from myself and other Union affiliates, people in the area will start to see that VT Union is a movement, not a group. Time will tell...
This was our first Union release "Tha Mixtape" (2007)

I did most of the production on my MPC 1000, with the exception of a few industry beatz that we did freestyles on. Tha Mixtape also features collabs with Smif n Wesson, Termanology & Jin Tha MC.

Originally I produced the Jin song "F*ck Jay Z?" for his album"100 Grand Jin" on Draft Records along with a song called "Backpack, Backpack". These songs blew up on the internet via Jin's myspace and the hip hop game website. "F*ck Jay Z?" had something like 50,000 plays in about two weeks! When Jin and his people fronted on givin up the paper for beatz, I decided to put "F*ck Jay Z?"on my Union crew's first release. Industry rule 4,080....

Smif n Wessun was our second time getting a national feature for our mixtapes. The first was R.A. The Rugged Man which we released later on "The Return". We contacted Tek and Steele thru my man Noha at Duck Down who I met when we opened for Boot Camp Clik in Burlington. We had them come to my studio when they tour came back to Burlington. Tek and Steele were on tour with Raekwon & Redman and traveling on the same bus as Raekwon. So when I ht Steele on the phone he's like "yo, Rae wanna drop a sixteen if y'all got the paper..." So me and my man Dakota, with the help of Uncle Russell, got some loot 2gether and recorded Raekwon as well. It was crazy, we had Tek and Steele writing and recording in the living room while Rae wuz writin' his dart in the bedroom with the MPC on the headphones! Termanology showed us mad love when we brought him up to VT for a show. This was when his buzz first stared to happen, him and Statik Selektah came up and turned it out. We sold most of these hand to hand on the corner of Church & Main in Burlington, VT. for $5 a pop... sold about 500 in about three months... not bad for a two man street team LOL!

Harlem, NY '90
I jumped in this music game head first.... This was back in 1990 when I was just a teenager comin' up in it... Look 4 ya boy at the end of the interview....

I had no idea i was gonna be on TV! Harmony dragged me over there cuz she was all nervous about doin' the interview alone... lol... Incredible experience for me! They had blocked off 125 in front of the state building and about 3 thousand people, mostly young people, gathered for the event. This event was a who's who of NY MCs at the time. There's a funny lil' side note as well... This interview took place at sound check. When we were done with the check and interview, somebody, I think Jamalski, wuz like "Yo! There's a benefit for the homeless in Thompkins Park! Let's go down there and kill it real quick!!!" KRS was like "Word!". So we all jumped in a van and jetted downtown. Keep in mind we were in Harlem, 125th street to be exact, and Thompkins Park is on 8th St. in the East Village. I don't know if you've ever driven thru midtown Manhattan on a saturday but needless to say the traffic was THICK! So Willie D (KRS' hype man) is barking at the driver "Hurry Up! We gotta be back on 125 in two hours!". We escaped about three accidents on the way downtown! Once we got downtown KRS went immediately to the stage in Thompkins Park and DESTROYED it!!! He debuted the lyric "slave ship had puerto ricans so puerto rican also african" and since there was mad Puerto Ricans in Thompkins Park (the East Village is adjacent to L.E.S. which has a huge latino community) the crowd went nuts!!! Then we literally jumped back in the van and jetted back uptown at like a hundred MPH up the East Side Highway. We made it just in time! When we got out the van the stage manager was like "Harmony, you're on next! Get to the stage entrance!" Below is a lil' clip of us in Harlem.....
